Skullcap (Scutellaria) grows mostly in North America and Canada. It's most popular use has been as sedative and nerve tonic. It's quieting and soothing effects help in treating nervousness, excitability, insomnia, anxiety and hysteria. Scientific findings indicate that this herb could be a great aid in treating mental disorders. Records indicate that Native Americans were using it as female medicinal herb, but also to induce visions. Skullcap can be prepared as a tee with approx. 8g steeped in a cup of hot water for 20 min.
It should be approached with care as repeated use and overdosing might cause confusion and twitching.
